Grrrrr…..bloody Microsoft

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

We run Sun LDAP server (Directory server 5.2) and we use idsync (or SUNWisw, or “Sun identity syncronisation for windows” or whatever they are calling it this week) to enable passwords in our Microsoft AD domain to be kept in sync with the passwords in LDAP. This has worked brilliantly for a couple of years.

All change at the top?

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Late last week, it seems that Trudy Norris-Grey (el president and Managing director of Sun UK) became ex president and ex managing director. Bit of a surprise - she had only been there a couple of years. Not seen where she is off to but I’d imagine she’ll not be looking for income support. [...]

idsync / Sun Identity sync for Windows

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

note to self: When installing idsync don’t spend ages trying to debug why it only syncs passwords from AD to Sun only to find the default is to not set the “sync attributes in both directions”. Grrrrrrrr.
Also, don’t try to use truss -f to follow the java process that is doing the syncing - holy [...]

Good news - too late?

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Seems the Comms suite team has a new boss with great ideas?
All sounds great - a few years late possibly but it all sounds good.
Too late for us? Quite possibly.
Too late for Sun to take on Exchange? Maybe. It’ll be interesting to watch

bye bye Sun? (go on, prove me wrong)

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

I’ve written before about our experiences with Sun JES software. A bit like oyster cards, it so nearly works really well but just ends up being frustrating
Our initial contract with Sun expires this summer. 3 years on it nearly works (which believe me, is progress on what we had to start with) and [...]

3510 firmware upgrade - urghhh

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Way back in Jan, I mentioned a problem we were seeing on our Sun JES messaging server machines with corrupt disks. After some fscking and much swearing (more downtime. *sigh*) Sun couldn’t really come up with a definite reason but given they had pretty much ruled everything else out they decided it was worth upgrading [...]

maybe they saw me coming?

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Reading Jonathan Schwartz’s blog entry about how great his blackberry is I thought I’d post a comment. Annoyingly, by the time I hit the post button comments were closed! I guess they saw me coming. Still, as I’d already written it I figured I may as well stick it up on here.
Google maps is indeed [...]

Nice to know it isn’t just us. I must admit this post made me smile
In other news, michs car was fixed - under warranty - with no arguing! I’m amazed!
I feel a little let down now - I was looking forward to one last row with the bloody place

Meeting progress

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Had meeting today with the Sun support guys (well, a support guy who we work with a lot, his manager, his managers manager and someone else whose title I forget) which went well. Interesting to find out a bit more about how they route calls (or more accurately, how many of ours are misrouted :-)). [...]

Sun update

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Well, it seems that both of my guesses at email addresses hit the target and that my email has been forwarded around a growing collection of important people within Sun. Some of the people reading this blog will also have seen it no doubt ;-).
Please, don’t email me asking for the addresses of Trudy and [...]
