Wooooo – I’ve lost some weight!

Yep, I’ve actually managed to lose some weight! Admittedly, not exactly the conventional way but I reckon the lump that the doctor took out of the side of my head earlier must have weighed a few grams. Together with the blood that was running down my neck and filling my ear at the time I must have lost enough weight to compensate for a few beers, some ice cream (I am wounded afterall) and a couple of goods shed brekkies. Oh, and maybe a sportsmans as well.

I’ve never had anything done under a local anesthetic so it was an interesting experience. The doc (GP Surgeon to be precise – at least, that is what it said on his door) was a little worried that it was rather close to the temporal artery but he went ahead anyway. 8 injections later and the side of my face is dead and he is hacking away at it. Very odd feeling but the worse bit is the noise of *snip* *snip* as he cat the lump out. Still, 30 mins of being pulled about and he starts waving a littleĀ  tub at me containing a bit of my head. 5 mins of being stitched up and I’m allowed to move again (which was difficult in itself – half and hour of laying on a plastic bed and I was somewhat stuck to it with sweat – lovely). Stupidly, despite him warning me it is likely to bleed a fair bit I decided that despite have a bus ticket I’d walk home. It’s a pleasant hours walk so I head off. A few people are looking at me but given I have a *huge* plaster stuck to the side of my head (as well as a rather odd hair cut now) I figured that was the reason. It was only after 45 mins I realised I had blood running down the side of my head… Not the most attractive.

I pop into the chemist to see if I can buy a few more plasters big enough as it is obvious this one isn’t going to last a day let alone the week before my next appointment and the pharmacist says “What’s it for?”!! I point to the blood on my neck and she goes “oooooo blimey, I didn’t notice that”. Top marks for observation there.

Still, all done. I can now sit back and wait to see what combination of the listed side effects I’ll get. The throbbing headache is here as promised and the side of my head is beginning to get rather painful – hopefully the blood will stop soon (I’m going to attempt to replace it with beer but only have 4 Newcastle browns in the house. Still, it’ll do in an emergency). For some odd reason I wasn’t nervous about the injections or the op at all but I’m really not looking forward to having the stiches pulled out next week :-/

And in other news, B-I-L has been offered a bed at East Grinstead but not until Friday. Still, now that he is off of the drips (taking 14 antibiotic pills 4 times a day instead – he must rattle) they are muttering about letting him go home during the days so that’ll be a bit less mind numbing. Lastest op removed a bit more dead skin but apparantly the antibiotics appear to be stopping it getting any worse for now sso sounding promising at last.

Right, time for some more painkillers and another beer…
