Who let the dogs out?

A few of us spent a pleasant evening yesterday at Sittingbourne dog track. Not something I’d done before (but something that I’ve been meaning to do for years – I had planned to go to the Canterbury dog track!). Turned out to be quite a laugh.

Spent the first couple of races attempting to work out what the hell the race cards meant (should I bet on a dog that is QAw,Led-2,Crd1/2 or would I be better with a reverse trio on a Crd1/4, a ALed and a Wide?) before deciding that a better plan would be to get a pint and a plate of chips’n'curry and just repeatedly put a quid on the last dog to have a dump at the start. Seemed to work fairly well – bet around 40 quid over the evening – and came home with a similar amount. I reckon that’s all the bloody tipsters do anyway.

Did feel a little silly queueing up to collect my £4.82 winnings from one race when the guy in front of me was collecting 690 quid but still.

It might be a bit shabby and full of dirty old men hiding behind their racing times but I’ll be going again. Might try to book a table up in the plusher bars as well – curry night is tempting :)

Recommended if there is a group of you. Good fun (although the pork chop and chips in the bar looked worryingly like greyhound’n'chips if you ask me :) ) The playing of “Who let the dogs out?” just before every race was mildly annoying to start with – by the 15th race I was looking to insert the PA system into someone…
