one of those days…
Spent much of the day at the First Lego League taking photos. Quite fun but still annoying how most of the teams rely on programming their ‘bots with “Forward for 2 seconds, right for 1 second” mentality instead of using the sensors to navigate in a more reliable way. Anyway, just as the thing was finishing and everyone was leaving the power went out. No prob, I’ll wander back to main campus and get something to eat from the vending machines. Except it turned out that the power cut was all of campus so vending machines were sitting there full of chocolate goodness but not letting me get any
A campus wide powercut also means we lose power to the machine room. This is a pain in the arse as god knows how many machines then lose power and need restarting. Arse. Still, a few hours later and all (well, most) are back running. by this time it is half seven and I have a sudden desire for a KFC. Not a problem, I’ll pick one up on the way home. First problem, no petrol. bugger. It’s at this point that it seems that everyone decided they were out to get me. Call in the petrol station - no petrol. Hmmm. given I’m running on fumes I turn around and head to the next one to fill up. The worlds slowest pump and after 25quid my fingers have gone numb so I give up. It’ll do for now. Head home and get to KFC. Discover I have no cash. Go to cash machine up the road. Cash machine also has no cash. Drive around Folkestone till I find a machine with money and head back to KFC. Obtain Variety meal goodness (complete with gravy…yum yum) and head to McDs to pick up a quarter pounder for mich who doesn’t like KFC. One quarter pounder. How simple is that. Should take seconds in McDs. Dash in, only one bloke in front and I can see 3 burgers cooked and waiting. Result! Listen as bloke in front orders 23 quarter pounders - 2 with no pickles. 23 quarter pounders??? wtf? Arse arse arse.
Finally get home with goodies and tuck in to my tub-of-lard’n'gravy (now cold) and remember just how great KFC is. The new mint choc flurries are pretty nice as well (hey, I needed something while I waited :))

I totally agree about programming like that. Once the batteries wear down, forward for 2 sec. is about half the distance it might be. Of course, our team rocked regionals with a perfect score, but that’s besides the point.
