holiday and stuff

Well, I’m being poked by typo so here goes.

Holiday was great despite mich doing her back in and sprog2 getting chicken pox (not that she was bothered). First day was bit of a trial though. We left in plenty of time to give us chance to stop and feed and water the kids before the ferry left and also to get some lunch. This all went out of the window when we heard that the M25 was closed. bugger.

We approached the back of the queue just as we approached a junction so we dived off and followed the A25 around to join the A3. At least, that was the plan…

After trudging along slowly (along with a million and one others) we suddenly find that the road we want to travel down to get to the A3 is closed. No warning just a big barrier and a sign saying “follow diversion” - except they appeared to have forgotten to actually sign the diversion. Great.

anyway, we dart off up god knows what road and end up on a tiny little single track lane heading into the middle of no where. By this time the sat nav (which is trying hard but is getting a little confused why we won’t go on the M25 and why we are not driving through the road block) is predicting arrival at the ferry port in portsmouth 10 mins after the ferry leaves. bugger again.

Finally we see civilization again (well a house) and we pull up at a crossroads. Hurrah! A road sign! We peer out of the window only find that the sigh has “this way”, “that way” and “somewhere else” on it. Ha bloody ha. anyother time this would have been vaguely amusing. Not this time though. I resist the urge to find some matches and set fire to the bloody thing as we head off in the direction of “somewhere else”.

Finally get to the ferry and drive straight on as pretty much the last car :-) Luckily they were running a little late (and luckily, the A3 doesn’t seem to have speed cameras).

Earlier in the week we had had a phonecall from the holiday company saying the the caravan we had booked was no longer available due to it being damaged somehow. Not to bother, they will upgrade us to a better specced, larger 3 bedroom one at their other site 5 miles up the road. Fine. Shame no one at head office had actually told the site. We arrived with two hungry kids at about 6pm only to be told “ooooooh yes. you are on the system but no one told us. We don’t actually have anywhere for you”. Hmmmm. We sit in the pub for a bit while they attempt to find us somewhere to stay. In the end they find us a standard 2 bedroom one (how the hell do you just “find” a mobile home??). As it is obviously all we are going to get we take it - it’s fine. got beds and a fridge for cold beer - what more could you want.

Mich has today sent a snotty letter off to Park Resorts suggesting that at the very least they might want to refund us for the meal we had to buy to feed the kids while we were waiting. We shall see….I’m betting on a discount voucher off of another holiday at best!

Photos and stuff to follow sometime when I can be bothered.
