A good thing from rising oil prices
It seems that the rising oil prices around the world are beginning to hurt the average American. This is good news in my opinion.
The yanks drive around in cars that make our big Jags look positively clean so anything that makes them think a bit before leaping in their gas guzzler SUV is great. They still pay a 3rd of what we do and they use (well, waste!) a huge amount of fuel. Maybe they will start to produce small efficient cars like the rest of the world have been doing for years now. Mind you, I guess they will need to start to address the fact that a lot of Americans are not exactly small and efficient themselves…
Wandered up the co-op this morning to get some bread for breakfast (when did they start opening at 7am instead of 6 the bastards??) and I notice that the huge billboards at the end of our road that for the last year or so have been alternately Conservative posters slagging Labour and then Labour slagging the Tories have suddenly all become covered in *huge* posters for the lib dems :). That amused me at 6:50am while standing the Co-op doorway in the rain waiting for it to open…
I actually caught the Tory election broadcast last night. What a load of bollocks.
“I’m voting Conservative because I want to feel safe when I go out at night”
Errrrrr…..ok.
“I’m voting Conservative because I want my hospitals to be clean. I mean, how difficult can it be to keep a hospital clean?”
Errrrr….well, large busy building full of people with allsort of illnesses. Pretty bloody difficult I should imagine. I suspect it needs a bit more than a quick dust shoving all the crap under the bed (although that does seem to be the extent of it in some cases at the moment :-).
To be fair, I didn’t see much of the Labour one the night before. Apparantly it was all Brown and Blair (hmmmm interesting that I typed that in that order without thinking…) sitting around a table playing footsie or something. Great.
Still, roll on the Lib Dem one which I assume will be tonight. Lots of coooooooing and “ahhhhhh, isn’t he cute look at his ickle fingers” I assume.
